Our Purpose

Who We Are

Tweed Climate Action Network seeks to make it as simple as possible for locals to take action to address climate change.

TweedCAN was set up in 2025 following a local council resolution to establish a group to lead, engage and motivate the Tweed community’s active response to climate change. We are a non-partisan, community-led group, and receive no funding from Tweed Shire Council.

Our mission statement is: To address climate change by inspiring and empowering community-led action.

We can be contacted at tweedclimateactionnetwork@gmail.com.

Our Values

Tweed Climate Action Network operates under the following core values to ensure community participation in local climate action, across the Tweed region.

  • Be upbeat – Solutions-focused, fostering hope and motivation rather than fear or blame. Our communication and actions are constructive, and empowering.

  • Be collaborative – In all our interactions, we value mutual respect, kindness and fairness, a generosity of spirit, respect for boundaries, and a constructive approach.

  • Be relatable – We seek to make climate action accessible and achievable for everyone. We believe every individual and household can play a meaningful role in creating a resilient community.

  • Foster communities – We believe in the power of collective action. Our Group connects and supports individuals, businesses, and organisations to share knowledge, collaborate, and build a stronger, climate-resilient community.

  • Be practical – We provide actionable information that helps people make effective changes in their daily lives. Our efforts focus on realistic, tangible solutions.

  • Remain adaptable – We adjust our behaviours and strategies in response to changing circumstances.

  • Embrace diversity – We acknowledge, value, and appreciate the differences and unique qualities of individuals within the Group and within the Tweed.

  • Focus locally – We celebrate and protect our unique environment by encouraging place-based solutions that align with the values of local residents.

  • Align with global action – We align with UN Sustainable Development Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
